Our School

Stonecrest ES

We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Stonecrest E.S. celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2018-2019 and has a current enrollment of 663 students.
Student Achievement and Well-Being are the central focus of our rural Kindergarten to Grade 8 school.

Our Students

  • Our Kindergarten to Grade 8 site offers both the English program with core French and the French Immersion  program

  • Upon completion of grade eight, most students will attend West Carleton Secondary School

  • All of our students are bussed to school on a daily basis

Our Staff

Stonecrest Elementary School has a staff of over 50 people.  This includes teachers, educational assistants, early childhood educators, custodians, library and office staff as well as our principal and vice-principal.  Our staff works collaboratively to provide a consistent delivery model for instruction.

Our Community

Stonecrest Elementary School is located in the northwest corner of the City of Ottawa. Sitting on fourteen acres of land, the facility is in a rural setting. The school serves the many farms, towns and villages in the area including Dunrobin, Woodlawn, Constance Bay, Fitzroy Harbour, Kinburn and Galetta. The support from parents and guardians provided to Stonecrest is part of the inclusive partnership that makes the school such a positive learning environment for our students.

The Stonecrest School Council meets on the second Tuesday of the month in the school library; meetings are open to the community. The Council serves as an advisory body to the school principal in all aspects of school life; is a forum for discussion and the exchange of ideas on educational issues; liaises with the district-wide organization of School Councils; and supports the school in a wide variety of supports, volunteer and fundraising events.

Facilities and Resources

The school was originally built in 1998.   The school has the Wilson Library Resource Centre with computerized circulation. The Wendell Styles Memorial Gymnasium is a double gym for both student and community use. It is equipped with a sound system and a full production stage. Our rural location affords us an exceptionally large playground containing 2 play structures, a separate kindergarten yard, and sports fields.

Our school code of conduct is shared with students and families through the student agendas.

Self-Regulation and conflict resolution skills and strategies are taught and modeled using the W.I.T.S. model (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, Seek help). The Community of Character initiative is taught with a cross-curricular approach to promote good citizenship and foster a positive learning environment.
