School Bus Safety Rules

Staying Safe on the Bus

At Stonecrest Elementary School, safety is our number one priority. Most of our students have extended bus rides home. Students learn three simple rules for riding the school vehicles safely: sit down, sit back, sit quietly.

When waiting for the bus, students:

  • Wait in an orderly fashion well back from the road.
  • Approach the bus only when it has come to a full stop.
  • Do not cross the road to get to the bus until the driver indicates that it is safe.

On the bus, students:

  • Board the bus holding on to the railing at all times.
  • Walk directly to their assigned seats and sit down.
  • Remain seated on their bottoms until ready to leave the school vehicle.
  • Refrain from eating and drinking on the school vehicle.
  • Keep their hands and feet to themselves.
  • Speak quietly to their neighbour.
  • Follow the driver's instructions at all times.

In accordance with Ottawa-Carleton District School Board Procedure PR.530.SCO - Withdrawal of Transportation Privileges, students who experience difficulty behaving well on the bus will be reported to VP Chevrier to help promote positive and safe behaviours on the bus. Students who demonstrate a pattern of unsafe behaviours may have bus privileges withdrawn.
