Welcome 2020

Welcome Back Stonecrest Students
Posted on 09/09/2020

Dear Stonecrest Families,

We hope you had a good weekend. We wanted to send out this Welcome Back to Stonecrest Video to you all. We hope it puts a smile on your and their faces. We are looking forward to seeing your children:

Wed. Sept. 16       Grades 1-3

Thurs.  Sept. 17    Grades 1-6
and Year 1 Kinder and the Year 2 kinder who go to EDP

Fri. Sept. 18          Grades 1-8 and all kindergarten (Year 1 and Year 2)

This week at school, the Stonecrest team is continuing to work on our plans for bus arrival, drop off and pick up by car, and processes to welcome the children into the school yard and classes. We are also implementing changes and putting in practices to ensure that school is as safe as possible in our new and complex world (hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, physical distancing, maximizing space, etc.) Before school starts, we will be sending you other videos and materials to help you prepare your children for their first days back, and to guide you as parents with regards to drop off and pick up procedures, traffic considerations, etc.

Here’s the list of suggestions for the four most important things for students to bring to school every day sent home by our OCDSB Director of Education Camille Williams-Taylor late last week:

  1. A Backpack and lunch
  2. A Mask (Grade 4-12, school supplied and reusable, bring daily)
  3. A Refillable Water Bottle
  4. Dressing in layers

We also wanted to suggest that you consider that your child may want to wear footwear that is waterproof or dries easily on rainy days or when the grass is dewy, given that we will be learning outside as much as possible in designated areas in the school yard. Additionally, we’d add that dressing in layers also means having rain jackets that are waterproof, and splash pants. Students will not be using cubby areas and all items will be at students’ seats. Labeling items is also highly recommended!

Here again is the link to the voluntary supply list. The school team will be reaching out with more detail on the supplies needed, as some of the items on this list may not be needed for a given class. Please do not send all items on the first day of school (especially for grades 4-8) as space in desks and bins is limited. More information to come on this.

While this is truly a start to the school year that we could not have imagined a year ago, we are excited to greet your children next week, and are working hard to implement all the safety and health practices and changes needed to be ready for them.

Stay safe and well,

The Stonecrest Team
