Starting in January, we will be welcoming Kareena Butler, the OCDSB’s Indigenous Itinerant teacher. She will be collaborating with teachers (K-8) to infuse First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture, perspectives, and history. She is a member of the Indigenous Education Team at the OCDSB.

Through the use of Indigenous literature, art, and music, students will engage in learning about Indigenous worldviews, residential schools, and treaties. Students will have the opportunity to reflect upon, respond to, and analyse these topics through authentic learning tasks, cross-curricular activities, and age-appropriate classroom discussions.

Every lesson or activity will start with a circle, as a way to develop community and a safe space to share thoughts and ask questions.
